John Berg & “Born to Run” poster

June 1, 2015

2015 marks the 40th anniversary of one of the greatest albums of the
rock era, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born To Run.” It’s also the 40th
anniversary of WhyHunger, a charity which has long been a favorite of
Springsteen’s for its work to combat the root causes of hunger, poverty
and injustice. To commemorate the joint anniversary, Eric Meola, the
photographer of the album’s classic wrap around cover image, contacted
us with an idea to make a limited edition poster to raise money for the
charity. Columbia Records had just reissued “Born To Run” on vinyl with
a new scan of the original print cleaner, clearer and sharper than
the original LP, perfect for the 24 x 40″ poster. 1,975 copies, to
recall the year 1975, are for sale through
Backstreets.com<http://Backstreets.com>. The gatefold album cover was
originally designed by John Berg, Columbia’s legendary art director from
1961 to 1985. We took care to recreate his design as closely as
possible. The album’s typeface, being pre-Mac, no longer existed and had
to be recreated from scratch. The cover image, originally printed in
very high contrast, was opened up to reveal greater clarity and detail.
Given a copy of the poster, Berg was thrilled. “Wow, wow, wow!!”Unknown
